Major Flood Prediction in Nov 2022 – Is Your Car Insured Sufficiently?

The Malaysian Meteorological Department has just issued an alert about heavy rains in the central and northern regions of Malaysia in late November. This weather pattern, driven by monsoon winds from the Philippines, could result in major floods by November 22nd or 23rd if not managed properly by local authorities and state disaster response agencies. If you own a car in Kuala Lumpur, make sure it’s insured against flooding and special perils so you don’t suffer financial losses from this predicted event!

Check The Flood Coverage On Your Motor Insurance

It’s been predicted that major floods are coming to Kuala Lumpur by the end of November. However, have you checked to see if your car insurance includes coverage for floods? You should contact your agent and find out what is included in your policy so you can make a more informed decision about flood risks and act accordingly.

If you have purchased motor insurance with Fatberry, feel free to contact us at +601126128112 to check on your flood coverage.

How Much Does Flood Coverage Cost?

Flood coverage can range anywhere from 0.2% to 0.5% of your vehicle’s sum insured, depending on how comprehensive the plan is and how likely it is that flooding could be an issue in your area. Different insurance company has different tariff on flood coverage rates. The good news is that flood coverage typically only costs a small investment. This would mean if you drive a Perodua Myvi 1.3 the flood coverage will cost between RM 27 and RM 72 per year.

Furthermore, an insurance company might refuse to provide flood coverage during the event of heavy flooding.

Save Yourself From The Hefty Repair Cost

The secret to avoiding expensive car repairs from flood damage is by making a small investment in flood insurance. For example, a driving institute in Taman Sri Muda faced a hefty repair bill of around RM 350,000 following the flash flood on 18 December 2021. In total, the residents of Taman Sri Muda suffered a staggering loss of RM3.7m due to the flood. Imagine all the repair costs without coverage of insurance!

Paying a small monthly fee for the next year is just enough to give you peace of mind and allow you to avoid the costly cost of repairs caused by flooding. These days, it’s hard to predict which area might be submerged in water, so don’t wait until it’s too late!

What are road signs?

Road signs are arranged and placed along the roads where drivers or pedestrians are supposed to obey them or refer to them. Other than stating the rules, road signs also provide useful information about the city or area as well as directions to prevent anyone from getting lost.

These road signs usually consist of a few consistent colours, shapes and symbols. In order to prevent confusion, there isn’t a wide variety of them.

Why do we need to know all the road signs in Malaysia?

There have to be rules when it comes to driving on the road for the sake of the safety and well-being of everyone. Imagine a world where there are no rules on the road – it can get chaotic!

The road signs are also made to manage the overall traffic flow so that there won’t be heavy traffic and prevent accidents from happening. With road signs, pedestrians and cyclists are able to wander about on the road while being safe.

What happens if we don’t obey the road signs?

For certain road signs such as prohibited signs, you might be fined or thrown into jail.

Prohibited signs are usually in red colour with a white background. Sometimes, these road signs can be in yellow or blue backgrounds. Drivers are required to obey these types of road signs. If not, they could face several consequences.

For example, some of the common prohibited road signs would be weight, height or width limits that will be placed just before a tunnel or car parks that are underground. Hence why certain lorries can’t enter certain tunnels because they could potentially get stuck.

Type of Road Sign in Malaysia #3: Guide Signs

Guide signs are either in blue, green, white, brown or yellow. These types of road signs in Malaysia involve direction or a particular distance to a road, tourist attraction, highways or expressways as well as to a certain direction.

For instance, the road signs in blue background are used on state roads, federal roads and municipal roads while the ones in green background are regularly used on highways or toll expressways.

Type of Road Sign in Malaysia #4: Information Signs

Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Car Insurance in Malaysia

1. What is car insurance?

Car insurance is a motor or auto insurance signed contract between the driver and the insurance company. The driver is required to pay a certain fee every year. The insurance company will take care of all your finances when it comes to any damage or loss encountered during an accident. You’ll be required to pay a fee every year to ensure the insurance company protects you financially.

2. Why do you need car insurance?

Car insurance helps to protect you financially if you encounter any accidents or mishaps that make you liable for another person’s damages or injuries. It also includes the medical bills if anyone gets injured, including yourself. This applies to the other driver that doesn’t have insurance. Besides, it’s also mandatory for all vehicle owners to have car insurance in Malaysia.

3. How does car insurance work in Malaysia?

Car insurance in Malaysia works similarly to other types of insurance. Essentially, you’ll have to pay a certain premium to the insurance company in order to receive assurance for specific losses. Let’s say something happens to you while on the road and you’ll probably encounter losses on your car, yourself, or even the third party or their car. With car insurance, you’ll be protected financially for all the costs.

4. What are the 3 types of car insurance?

There are 3 different types of car insurance in Malaysia you can choose from as stated below:

Type of Car Insurance in Malaysia #1: Third-party coverage

This type of car insurance is the most common one and is compulsory for all car owners to have. Basically, you will have protection in terms of payment when the other car is damaged during an accident. It’s considered cheap among the other two.

Type of Car Insurance in Malaysia #2: Third-party, fire & theft coverage

This type of car insurance protects your vehicles against fire or theft damages. For instance, if your car caught fire, was stolen, or broken into. The overall cost is average compared to the two.

Type of Car Insurance in Malaysia #3: Comprehensive coverage

For comprehensive coverage, as the name suggests, you will be able to claim your own vehicle damages as well as the other person’s repair costs. Additionally, your vehicles will be covered for fire or theft damages. As this is the most expensive compared to the other two, it’s commonly bought by those who own expensive cars.

5. What is not included in car insurance policies?

The common car insurance coverage will not include your own death or bodily injury that happens during a car accident. Aside from that, any damage or loss caused by nature won’t be included.

6. How much does car insurance cost in Malaysia?

There is no best car insurance in Malaysia as it ultimately depends on your budget as well as every insurance provider offers different features. However, you can compare yourself with Fatberry’s online platform to see which insurance provider suits you best.

7. What should I look for in car insurance in Malaysia?

Before choosing the best car insurance in Malaysia, there are several factors to consider:

Coverage

Take note of the kind of coverage every policy offers as some of them include certain features such as personal injury, collision, and so on.

Budget

Not everyone is able to afford car insurance in Malaysia. For each different insurance provider, there are different prices. Hence, know your budget before purchasing car insurance.

Available Workshops

Most insurance companies have a wide network of car workshops where you can repair your vehicles. It’s best to choose the insurance company which provides a large number of workshops under their network to make it easy to repair your vehicle.

Insurance Company

Before buying insurance, make sure you’ve done your research to ensure it’s a legitimate insurance company. Check out the customer reviews and see whether the insurance claims are accurate.

Buying Insurance Online

You’ll also have to consider whether you can buy the insurance online. For example, with Fatberry, you can compare, customize and buy insurance online from top insurance providers such as Allianz, AXA, Etiqa, and so on.

8. Who are the top five insurance companies in Malaysia?

Based on the majority of customer reviews, the top five insurance companies in Malaysia are Allianz, Etiqa, AXA, Tokio Marine, and MSIG. But bear in mind, if you’re looking for the best car insurance in Malaysia from these insurance companies, you should find one that suits your needs and requirements.

9. What is full coverage car insurance?

Full coverage car insurance combines several coverage types such as property damage liability, bodily injury liability, collision coverage, and comprehensive coverage, to name a few.

10. What happens if you crash without insurance?

If you crash without insurance, you’ll be required to bear all of the financial burdens by yourself. You could possibly get sued as well based on the damage or injury.

11. Is driving without insurance illegal?

In Malaysia, yes, driving without insurance is illegal. All vehicle owners are required to have car insurance.

12. How to purchase or renew car insurance in Malaysia?

You can quickly purchase or renew car insurance on Fatberry! In just three steps, you can get a quote emailed to you.
